Saira Khan' Pakistan Adventure

Saira Khan' Pakistan Adventure

Saira Khan didn’t win the first series of the UK version of the business show The Apprentice, but with her strong personality and forthright views she was undoubtedly its star. Here, she goes back to her roots to spend 30 days exploring today’s Pakistan, a 3,000-mile journey of discovery starting in the south and finishing in the remote northern region of Azad Kashmir.

Travelling by bus, rail, truck, boat, rickshaw, camel and cart – Saira discovers what day-to-day life is really like for Pakistanis and what makes the country tick. She learns about Pakistan’s history, geography and modern culture, and her travels bring her into contact with people from all walks of life, revealing a side of Pakistan rarely seen by the West.

This is a journey that has real meaning for Saira; it is a first chance to properly explore her parents’ homeland. She takes viewers well beyond stereotypical images to offer an accessible and authentic portrait of rapidly evolving nation. Her forthright and easy manner makes her the ideal traveller, and her background gives her a level of access that would not be possible for a non-Muslim presenter.

From rare Buddhist Sanskrit texts to popular TV preachers; from Pakistan’s only non-Muslim tribe to the disappearing river dolphin of the Indus, Saira reveals the hidden wonders of a country that has emerged from 60 years of independence.
